I am notoriously a do-it-yourselfer. I think that it is a control freak issue, but that topic could take days so we will move on to why this site is so awesome.
One example: this typewriter cursive font...
Or these matchbook favors...
pom pom printables....
do it yourself ice cream drumsticks (which are my fav ice cream treat by the way)
doodle cards...
You should have the idea by now so take some time this weekend and go check it out. I can not tell you how much I feel personal touches like this add to an event. Have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week - Marin Kristine Photography
This website you just have to check out. I absolutely love her work both for weddings and boudoir. You don't see a lot of boudoir out there that is fun and classy while being totally sassy at the same time. Love, love, LOVE.
Hope that you have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week - JLMCNC.org
Hello everyone! I apologize for the missed post on Wednesday but I have been sick and it just wasn't happening for me. For the site of the week this week I am going to send you to the newly launched www.JLMCNC.org.
It is the site for the Junior League of Moore County (which if you read the blog I am sure that you already know I am on the board). There are a lot of great events coming up over the next few months including the Fall Academy for Success project tomorrow at Samarcand Manor. Academy for Success is a workshop that teaches at risk girls life skills and life enrichment courses in hopes of helping them make better choices for their futures.
We also have our annual wine tasting coming up in a month which is always a great time. Be sure to swing by the site and check it out!

The new Wacom Bamboo tablet
I do not have an iPhone. Sad, I know. But, I do know people who have iPhones and one of the things that I really liked about them is that you can use gestures to zoom, scroll, etc.
With the introduction of the Wacom Bamboo it looks like you will be able to do the same thing and still have the option of using the pen (which I use everyday and love). There are three models the Bamboo Touch and Pen for $99 (you can also get just touch or just pen for $69), the bamboo craft for $129, and the Bamboo fun for $199. The difference appears to be the amount of screen area. For $99 this sure looks fun and I might just need to get one of these. Christmas is coming you know...

Friday Site of the Week - Going to the Dogs
This weeks sites are really fun. I don't know about you but people in general fall into two categories: Pet people and baby people. Don't get me wrong, babies are great. But when I look into a dogs big brown eyes my heart just melts. How can you not love something that cute? The sites that I have for you today are both from Erin Vey, a lifestyle pet photographer. This will put you in a good mood for your weekend for sure. Enjoy!

Friday Site of the Week - Blue Lily Photo
I wanted to try to find something patriotic today since it is 9/11 and we just celebrated Labor Day but I am also prepping for a client meeting so I failed horribly. Please just take a minute to remember that the men and women who serve us - be they police, fire, military, or whatever - do so as volunteers and often at great peril to themselves. They are not the politics. They are people and the deserve our support and recognition. Say thanks to someone you see today and make their day a little better.
On to the site for you today. I really like the style. Take a look at the photos and try to figure out the actions used...I have been thinking that I need to use actions more and this is great inspiration.

Friday Site of the Week - How to be Inspired
http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-be-inspired-and-not-intimidated-by-other-photographers
I think that this is a good link for a lot of people to think about right now. It was posted on digital photography school, which I featured before and it talks about how to be inspired by other photographers without being intimidated. One thing that it didn't cover is how to be inspired by other photographers without becoming a hater.
It is a pretty common tendency, especially when sales are down and the economy is slow, for people to get a little touchy about competition. Being the new kid on the blog I have felt it a lot. Some photographers feel that they more people hanging their shingle the fewer clients that they will get because there are only so many people to go around. Fact of the matter is, if a certain client doesn't like your work they aren't going to like it whether you have one competitor or fifty. The opposite is also true. If a client sees your photos and something clicks for them and you are "the one" for them it won't matter how many other people that they had to look at to find you.
That said, doesn't it make sense to try to work together and make local photography friends? They can help you out if you get in a bind, you can compare slide show programs with them when you are deciding which to purchase...you get the idea. Everyone out there has something of value to contribute and fear is no reason not to get yourself out there and learn from each other.
If you are still concerned about losing business maybe you should focus on the things that you can change. You can't (legally) control the number of people who are charging for photography in your area, but you can work on honing your marketing efforts to your target market. Still not sure who your target market is? Market research can give you the facts you need to feel more confident. And of course, practice!
Hope that you all have an amazing Labor Day weekend!

Friday Site of the Week - Interviews by Crash Taylor
The site of the week this week is really interesting for those of you who like to hold up the old measuring stick once in a while and see what other photographers are doing. Crash Taylor interviews a lot of big names in wedding photography on his site. He also has a really good portfolio that you should check out while you are there.

Friday Site of the Week!
The site of the week this week is a great one if you are a bride to be. I stumbled upon Twig and Thistle while I was reading Style Me Pretty (which if you haven't looked at yet you should go do so NOW) This site is full of great DIY projects for creative brides on a budget and great eye candy for photographers or lovers of cute vintage stuff. The blog is located at http://www.twigandthistle.com/blog/.
Because I am also super giving I am going to throw in a second site for FREE! I am IN LOVE with this site which I found by following Stacy Reeves on Twitter and I want to buy pretty much everything on the site, especially the dresses. Best part, the are actually reasonably priced. How's that for a Friday find? Have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week: Gearing up for tomorrow's photowalk
Hey, everyone! I am very excited about the photowalk tomorrow morning and I wanted to take a few minutes today to try to give you all the last minute info that you will need.
First things first, the walk starts at 10AM in front of the Southern Pines Public Library on Connecticut Avenue between Broad Street and Bennett Street. You should plan to be there a few minutes before 10 so that we may start promptly. Don't be that guy and make everyone wait for you. I also want to take a group picture at the beginning of the walk so we will need a few minutes to do that as well. I have will maps of the route on the day of for everyone, but it a simple route so it will be pretty hard to get lost. We will end at around noon at the corner of Bennett and Pennsylvania Ave. I did not know how many people would be interested, but you guys have been great and we have more than 30 people participating! Because of this if some people would like to have Mexican and some would like to go elsewhere (sushi, bell tree, ice cream parlor, etc.) we may split into two groups after the walk. We will play it by ear. I will also be sure to park my car at our end point if anyone needs a ride back to the library parking lot, or feel free to park in either of the two municipal lots at our end point. All of these are public lots and free parking.
A word on safety: Be aware of your surroundings when we are out on the walk. I do not want anyone walking out into traffic to get "the shot". Safety first always! Next, be sure to wear sunscreen and you may also want to bring a hat and sunglasses. It is going to be hot. Be sure to being some water with you to keep hydrated while on the walk route. The forecast looks hit or miss, but this is a rain or shine sort of event so be sure to bring rain protection for both you and your camera just in case. Other than that, wear comfy clothes and good walking shoes and be prepared to have fun.
Before the walk (or better yet right now), be sure that you have your login info. You will need this to upload your photos after the walk. Test it before hand and make sure it works, then put it somewhere safe. If you have lost your info go to this link to retrieve it. Also, go download the Free Lightroom Trial and the photowalk plug-in if you plan to upload using Lightroom 2.0. Be sure to verify your password and log-in info with the plug-in as well.
I will be unavailable from the 22nd until the deadline to upload your photos on the 25th, so if you think that you will need some help, you should upload your photos as soon after the event as possible. Otherwise I will not be available to help you. You should also check out these videos before the event to familiarize yourself with the uploading process. I do not have a preference whether you upload using the lightroom plug-in or directly to the website. Do whatever is easiest for you.
Here is a list of important deadlines after the walk:
July 25, 11:59 pm EST: Deadline for photo walkers to upload their images for consideration. No photos received after this time will be considered in the contest.
August 1, 11:59 EST: Deadline for walk leaders to upload the best photo from their walks. No photos received after this time will be considered in the contest.
August 17: The grand prize winner and 10 honorable mentions will be announced on the Worldwide Photo Walk website.
I did get some prizes donated, but I will save that for before the walk so it can be a surprise! I look forward to seeing you all Saturday morning!

Friday Site(s) of the Week!
Hey everyone! As promised I am compiling a list of links to all things photowalk related.
First, be sure to go to the main photowalk to look at the prizes, gear guide, and FAQ. Then, be sure to download your free trial of lightroom if you don't have it already. Also there is probably still time if you would like to purchase an official photowalk t-shirt to benefit Springs of Hope orphanage in Kenya (got mine already)
http://worldwidephotowalk.com/
Next, scroll to the bottom of the page and read the archives for the worldwide photo walk blog. It has links to all sorts of great resources including that blog post I linked to in my Monday post.
Next week there will be a post everyday leading up to the big walk next Saturday so be sure to read up.
Next up, Jeff Revell at PhotowalkPro, the link is for a guide to photowalking, but his whole blog is dedicated to it.
http://www.revellphotography.com/blog/?p=474
This last one is actually on the wwpw blog site but I gave it it's own link anyway:
http://worldwidephotowalk.com/blog/2009/06/05/its-guest-blog-friday-featuring-laurie-excell/
If anyone has any last minute questions be sure to let me know. I will be at the Sandhills Photography Club meeting on Monday night to talk a bit about it as well. That's it for me. Have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week!
So, if you follow me on Twitter (MollieTobias) or you read the comments on the blogs you probably already know what today's site of the week is.
www.mollietobiasphotography.com!
I will probably be tweaking it a bit over the next few weeks, but it is up and running so go check it out!
Some other news, if you live in the Southern Pines/Pinehurst/Aberdeen area go pick up a copy of the Pilot today. I am featured in it twice! I know, cool. One article is about the upcoming photowalk and then there is a full page spread of the photos that I took for Pinestock last weekend.
Hope you all have a safe and happy 4th of July weekend!

Friday Site of the Week!
So, today was supposed to be the big day where I announce the launch of my new website...but, there seem to be some technical issues (imagine that, technology not working as expected) that I am still working with the hosting company to fix.
To make up for it I am going to give you a link and some pictures instead. The link is for the awesome hotel that I stayed at while I was in NYC over the weekend for the McNally workshops. You can visit their site here.
I admit that since I have a degree in interior design I am a sucker for a cute interior, which this hotel has in spades. It is located at 24th Street and 3rd Ave. and I walked from here to everyplace from Soho to Chinatown to Central Park. (I like to walk but not everyone may want to walk quite that much) Most of this walking was done by myself, some with my camera, and I never once felt unsafe. The staff was great. They looked up my train departure time for me and gave me recommendations for where to find Pizza (Mike's just up 3rd at 25th) and were really friendly and easy to deal with.
The photo above was taken out my hotel window. I had a room on the 9th (of 10) floors right on the corner. It turns out that I had the largest room on the floor and - get this - it was $120 a night! I booked straight through the hotel and not through orbitz or expedia though it was listed on both sites.

The hotel is full of great details like a zebra lamp shade on the ceiling fixture...

The marble bathroom...
Even the toiletries were cute. The shampoo and conditioner had the greatest eucalyptus scent. I am in love with them.

On the day that I checked out the held my bags for me all day since I did not leave for the airport until 4PM. When I was ready to leave for the airport they told me that they had a car that could take me for a flat rate of $35. I had paid almost $30 for a taxi on the way there so I said that was fine. I got outside and it was not just a car, it was a white stretch limo! Yep, check me out I was rolling through Manhattan in a limo. Pretty cool. All stated this hotel rocks and if you are going to NYC anytime soon I highly recommend it. Have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week!
There is a reason that the tagline for the blog Style Me Pretty is "obsessions for brides". I am obsessed and I am not even getting married. I actually wish that I could get married again just so that I can use some of the amazing ideas on this blog. Then again, maybe it is better this way so that I don't get married and then look at the blog and think "oh I should have done that!"
Beautiful pictures, great ideas, links to top notch vendors. Great, Great, Great.
Have a good weekend!

Friday Site of the Week!
Hey ya'll. Short post today, but this week's site is http://www.dannyadamsphotography.com/ . Danny used to be an architect in Raleigh, but due to the current economic climate he has started leading deep sea fishing charters in Atlantic Beach, NC. He also takes some great photos. Take a minute and check him out!

Friday Site of the Week!
Okay, okay. I will put out a disclaimer on this one. It is Friday, and I am going to give you a link, but really this whole post is just because I am so super duper excited (enough to actually type super duper) and I want to tell people about it.
So, here is the link.
What's it for? The Joe McNally workshop that I just got a spot in for later next month! Can you say excited? So much great stuff to learn! Of course, I will give you all a review of it after I get back and put up lots and lots of great pictures. (At least they better be great or else I won't speak to myself for weeks)
Anyway, spend your weekend trying to find something that makes you as giddy and excited as this makes me and I will be thinking of everyone while I am hanging in Savannah, GA with some pals and hopefully taking cool portraits in the historic district. Have a great weekend!

Friday Site of the Week!
Hey guys, well it is Friday (!) and this is also my 50th blog post. Kinda exciting - hopefully for people other than just me...yes, I am fishing for comments. If you'd like to leave some feel free.
Today's site also comes with an announcement that if you follow me on Twitter (MollieTobias) you already heard about. I have signed up to lead a local Sandhills area chapter of Scott Kelby's 2nd annual worldwide photowalk! What is the worldwide photowalk? Glad, you asked. It leads us to our link for site of the week here.
Go to the main site to read what the photowalk is about, see pictures from the winners last year, and sign up to be part of a walk (like mine). Wait, did I say winners? You mean, like, they have prizes and stuff? Yes, that is exactly what I mean. After the walk you upload your pictures to the worldwide photo site and then winners are selected from each location and there are also winners selected overall. They even give out prizes. What prizes, I have no idea because they have not posted them yet, but it does say that the overall winner - as picked by Scott Kelby - will get a mega prize pack. I'll have to keep you all updated.
If you happen to be in the Sandhills area and want to sign up for my photowalk you can do so at http://worldwidephotowalk.com/sandhills-area-nc-usa/ Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend!
